Appealing to folks to boycott Chinese items amid heightened border tensions in Ladakh, Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Thursday stated the Centre will strictly implement the BIS high quality guidelines on merchandise imported from China.

The Food and Consumer Affairs Minister additionally directed his ministry officers to not procure any Chinese merchandise for day-to-day office-use functions.

“I want to appeal to everyone that the way China is behaving, we boycott all Chinese products,” he stated.

Expressing considerations over unlawful imports of sub-standard Chinese merchandise like diyas and furnishings, Paswan stated the federal government will strictly implement the standard guidelines framed by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

The BIS, beneath the aegis of the Consumer Affairs Ministry, has framed over 25,000 high quality guidelines for totally different merchandise to this point, he stated.

“When our goods reach abroad, they are checked. Our Basmati rice exports get rejected, but when their goods come to India, there is no strict quality control,” he added.

The new BIS regulation, handed in Parliament in 2016, empowers the Centre and the BIS to advertise a tradition of high quality of services by way of obligatory or voluntary compliance with Indian requirements.
